{"id":98,"date":"2007-03-22T09:25:29","date_gmt":"2007-03-22T16:25:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mynameisruby.com\/blog\/?p=98"},"modified":"2007-03-22T09:25:29","modified_gmt":"2007-03-22T16:25:29","slug":"vocabulary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mynameisruby.com\/blog\/2007\/03\/vocabulary\/","title":{"rendered":"Vocabulary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve been signing at Ruby since a very early age.\u00a0 Our vocabulary isn&#8217;t big, but Ruby is starting to pick them up more quickly.\u00a0 Like her words, though, she tends to latch onto a favorite sign and then use it for everything.<\/p>\n<p>Ruby&#8217;s verbal vocabulary right now is limited to &#8220;down&#8221; and &#8220;this&#8221;.\u00a0 She has said other words in the past (&#8220;up&#8221;, &#8220;mama&#8221;, &#8220;papa&#8221;, &#8220;gargoyle&#8221;) but for now, those two words are just about all she uses.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, her favorite sign right now is &#8220;more&#8221;.\u00a0 She uses it to indicate that she wants to eat, which apparently is all the time.\u00a0 She also knows how to sign &#8220;all done&#8221;, &#8220;bedtime&#8221;, and she can nod in agreement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All done&#8221; and &#8220;more&#8221; can sometimes be confusing for her.\u00a0 When she&#8217;s eating I&#8217;ll ask if she&#8217;s all done and she&#8217;ll sign it.\u00a0 Then I&#8217;ll ask if she wants more and she&#8217;ll sign <em>that<\/em>.\u00a0 Then I&#8217;ll ask if she wants down and she&#8217;ll say, &#8220;Dooooooowwwww&#8230;&#8221;.\u00a0 Then we&#8217;ll start over from the top.\u00a0 Sometimes, I&#8217;ll see her run through a bunch of her signs &#8212; &#8220;milk&#8221;, &#8220;more&#8221;, &#8220;all done&#8221; &#8212; as if she&#8217;s not quite sure what she&#8217;s trying to say.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve been signing at Ruby since a very early age.\u00a0 Our vocabulary isn&#8217;t big, but Ruby is starting to pick them up more quickly.\u00a0 Like her words, though, she tends to latch onto a favorite sign and then use it for everything.
